It's the Law!
As mentioned in the first post, the real-world version of the game doesn’t seem to have any official rules. The game adopts the most common ones I came across but also leaves plenty of room for creativity.
- §1 Each player takes three consecutive taps before passing the turn to the next player. On the first tap, repositioning the car sideways is allowed.
- §2 If the car leaves the track or flips upside down, it is returned to the spot where the tap was initiated.
- §3 If the car tips onto its side, it is returned to the midpoint between its current position and where the tap was initiated.
- §4 Cars must be removed from the track when it is not their turn, preventing any possibility of collisions.
- §5 The player who crosses the finish line with the fewest pushes is declared the winner.
It is common that multiple players reach the finish line with the same number of pushes. In such cases, a tiebreak rule determines the winner. While tracking these details manually would be challenging, computers make it effortless. Currently, two tiebreak rules are available:
- §6.1 The player leading before the final push is declared the winner.
- §6.2 The player with the longest push is declared the winner. The longest pushes remain hidden until the race concludes, adding uncertainty and discouraging safe play.
Some refinements have emerged during testing. I’m likely to remove the sideways-flip penalty, as it’s quite rare and has minimal impact on gameplay. Additionally, a third tiebreaker rule will be introduced, where the winner is the player who spends the least time aiming. This could help increase the tempo without imposing strict time limits.
Thanks for reading! Feel free to share any ideas for new rules or adjustments to the current ones.
