Happened in Hanaa – Vol. 3: June 16–22, 2025

It was Midsummer week, so between activities some might generously call social networking, my dev time was limited. To make things more interesting, I managed to injure my right thumb playing football on Wednesday; turns out typing is a lot less fun with one functional hand. Still, despite the slow and slightly unlucky week, I managed to get a few things done.

  • New winter track: first draft. The initial version of the new winter track is in. It’s designed to be easier to race than the old one and features a curious mix of surface types. The look and surface logic still need some polish, but it’s getting close to finished.
  • Beautify updated. I updated Beautify to the latest version for cleaner post-processing. I’d been hesitant to do this, since it’s not always obvious what breaks in the update—but so far, nothing critical. One reason I updated was the new film dirt/scratch effect, but it turned out a bit underwhelming. So the dream of a proper 8mm film look lives on (for now).
  • General cleanup. While working on the above, I fixed a few lingering issues with post-processing settings and track data. Small but satisfying improvements.

I’m aiming for a new release sometime this month, so this coming week will mostly be about testing and refining what’s already in. My summer vacation also starts soon, which might slow things down a bit, but that’s a story for next week.
